Obituary for Kate Martin
Emily Katherine (Kate) Musselwhite Martin passed away October 29, 2022 at the age of 105. She celebrated her August 17th birthday with many of her family members present.
Kate was born in Possumneck, MS to Isaac and Ola Miller Musselwhite, the youngest of ten children. In 1940 she married Jack Martin of West, MS. They were married for 68 years before his death in 2008. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed serving her family at their many gatherings; and they enjoyed her delicious dishes, especially her homemade vanilla custard ice cream and her pecan and chocolate pies. She loved to read, and it became a favorite pastime for many years. She was an active member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church for over 80 years, and was honored on several occasions as the oldest member for her years of dedication and service.
Kate is survived by her three children: Bob Martin (Phyllis) of Starkville, MS; Kay Davis (Jerry) of Harrisburg, NC; and Bill Martin (Diane) of Kosciusko, MS; 6 grandchildren: Bert Martin (Kristy) of Mantachie, MS; Wynde Stewart (Bob) of Tupelo, MS; Susan Bailey (Bill) of Corinth, MS; Jennifer Rhyne (Patrick) of Harrisburg, NC; Mike Davis of Harrisburg, NC; and Blake Martin of Cleveland, OH; and 21 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 2847 Racetrack Road, West, MS on Friday, November 4, 2022 from 1:00-2:30 with a Celebration of Life service at 2:30 with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
